Programme an NFC tag
NFC tags let any team member start the right check instantly — hold a phone near the tag and PULSS opens directly to that checkpoint. No searching, no app navigation.
NFC tags are not included with PULSS
Tags must be purchased separately. We recommend NTAG213 sticker tags, which are widely available from suppliers such as GoToTags, Seritag, or Amazon. A pack of 10–20 tags typically costs £10–20. For metal surfaces, choose on-metal tags. For outdoor or wet environments, choose waterproof labels.
Step 1
Find the checkpoint URL in PULSS
Each checkpoint has a unique URL. This is the link you will write to the NFC tag.
- 1.Open Checkpoints in PULSS.
- 2.Find the checkpoint you want to attach to the tag.
- 3.The NFC / QR ID is shown in the checkpoint row — this is the unique identifier for that checkpoint.
- 4.Your checkpoint URL is: https://www.pulss.cloud/nfc/{NFC ID}
- 5.Alternatively, select Print QR for the checkpoint. The URL encoded in the QR code is exactly the same URL to write to the NFC tag.
The checkpoint ID is shown in the NFC / QR ID column of the Checkpoints page. If none is shown, PULSS has assigned one automatically — use Print QR to see it.
Step 2 — iPhone
Programme the tag on iPhone
iPhone supports NFC writing on all models from iPhone 7 onwards running iOS 14 or later. No special hardware is needed.
- 1.Download NFC Tools or NFC TagWriter by NXP from the App Store (both are free).
- 2.Open the app and tap Write, then Add a record.
- 3.Select URL / URI as the record type.
- 4.Enter the checkpoint URL — this is https://www.pulss.cloud/nfc/ followed by the checkpoint NFC ID shown in PULSS.
- 5.Tap Write and hold the back of your iPhone near the NFC tag until you see a confirmation.
- 6.The tag is now programmed.
Recommended app: NFC Tools (by wakdev) — free on the App Store.
Step 3 — Android
Programme the tag on Android
Most Android phones from 2015 onwards include NFC. Make sure NFC is enabled in your phone settings before starting.
- 1.Download NFC Tools or NFC TagWriter by NXP from Google Play (both are free).
- 2.Open the app and tap Write, then Add a record.
- 3.Select URL / URI as the record type.
- 4.Enter the checkpoint URL — this is https://www.pulss.cloud/nfc/ followed by the checkpoint NFC ID shown in PULSS.
- 5.Tap Write and hold the back of your phone near the NFC tag until you see a confirmation.
- 6.The tag is now programmed.
Recommended app: NFC Tools (by wakdev) — free on Google Play. NFC TagWriter by NXP is a good alternative.
Step 4
Test the tag
Before placing the tag, confirm it works correctly.
- 1.Close the NFC writing app on your phone.
- 2.Hold the back of your phone near the tag.
- 3.PULSS should open and go directly to the check for that checkpoint.
- 4.Sign in if prompted, then confirm the correct checkpoint and checklist appear.
- 5.If nothing happens, check the URL was written correctly and starts with https://.
Tips for lasting tags
Tag type
Use NTAG213 or NTAG215 stickers. These are the most widely compatible NFC format and work with all modern smartphones.
Metal surfaces
Standard NFC tags are blocked by metal. If you are attaching a tag to a metal surface — such as a machine, locker, or panel — use on-metal NFC tags, which include a shielding layer.
Outdoor use
Choose waterproof NFC labels or laminated tags if the checkpoint is outdoors or in a wet environment such as a washroom plant room or external area.
Placement
Place the tag where staff will naturally hold their phone — eye level, near the door handle, or at the start of the area being checked. Label it clearly so staff know to tap it.
Tag size
Small sticker tags (25–30mm) are enough for most surfaces. Larger tags are easier to tap and more visible, which helps in busy environments.
